Lead guitarist from thrash metal band Testament, Alex Skolnick formed jazz band the Alex Skolnick Trio (AST) in  2002 and has toured with the band in venues all over the world.

Real Time Live is delighted to reveal the Alex Skolnick Trio will be playing in Chesterfield on 2 March 2017.

Blending the elegance and sophistication of jazz with the conviction of metal, the Alex Skolnick Trio is known for playing rousing ‘bebop’ renditions of classic rock and heavy metal tunes to great acclaim.

Fans of AST include Metallica’s Robert Trujillo, who joined the band for an impromptu jam at Radio City Music Hall.

With a flawless rock pedigree, Skolnick was a student of Joe Satriani in his late teens. He cites his influences as Eddie Van Halen, Jeff Beck, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Johnny Winter, Randy Rhoads, Kiss and Scorpions amongst many others.

He joined Testament at the tender age of 15 and enjoyed his first 10 years with the band before his departure in 1993.

Recording with the Stu Hamm band in 1991, Skolnick joined Savatage in 1994 and played guitar for Ozzy Osbourne in 1995. He would return twice to record with Testament, re-joining the band full-time in 2005 – and since then, performing in some of the world’s biggest venues.

From 2002 onwards, Skolnick has also been touring and recording with the Alex Skolnick Trio, after graduating from The New School for Jazz & Contemporary Music with a BFA in jazz performance.

The trio’s latest album, Veritas, reached No 7 in the iTunes jazz charts.

In 2004, Skolnick made a guest appearance on Lamb of God’s Ashes of the Wake album, recording a solo for the album’s instrumental title track.

Skolnick was appointed to the board of directors of the Musicians Institute in Hollywood in 2013, the same year as his book “Geek to Guitar Hero” was published.

According to a Guitar World magazine reader’s poll, Skolnick is considered one of the greatest guitarists of all time and one of the fastest guitarists in the world.

Completing AST are Matt Zebroski on drums and Nathan Peck on bass. You can see them at Real Time Live, Chesterfield on Thursday 2 March – advance tickets now available from WeGotTickets.
